U.S. Healthcare Is Broken:
"Much of U.S. Healthcare Is Broken How To Fix It”
Written by Dr. Les Ruthven
In 2005 I turned my research to the efficacy and safety of medical treatments which have only marginal efficacy. Physicians are trained to treat disease but most health problems are due to our behavior and distressing “psychological” causes, which are now inappropriately treated with psychiatric drugs.
The major diseases (cancer, diabetes, etc.) comprise both organic and “psychological” causes; physicians are trained to treat the former but not the latter. I propose a new system of managed care to insure that these psycho social health problems are treated by experts and not physicians with drugs.
Antidepressants:
Science, Magic or Marketing?
Written by Dr. Les Ruthven
This book counters the propaganda that depression is a brain disease, a chemical imbalance in the brain and the drug returns the brain to normal! This is presented as fact and not only is it wrong the drug’s side effects actually further impairs the brain!
A research organization found the drug reduces depressive symptoms by 50% and a placebo by 32%, a marginal benefit. The key in treating depression is to keep it from returning and actually placebo treatment has fewer relapses than drug treatment!
